The East Davenport Development Corporation — which assists with rehabilitations and infill development in areas south of Locust Street and east of Main Street — has $225,000 it’s willing to use to help move the home at 2101 Main St., said corporation spokesman Jannette Higginson. An ad hoc group – calling itself Friends of the Henry Deutsch House — met in City Hall on Thursday, March 6, 2008 for about an hour to discuss strategy regarding taking possession of the nearly century-old house from St. Paul. Last Wednesday, the Davenport City Council overrode the historic commission’s recommendation to halt demolition, but did grant a 60-day window for those wishing to save the house to find a solution. “Our main goal is to figure out a method to save this house,” Bill Boone, 3rd Ward said. “Secondarily, we want to send a message to the residents of Davenport that historic preservation is important |
